Rebuilding and Instantly Mining the Lead Mountain

By the end of the Challenge I'd levelled my lead mountain. So I've been shopping and bought stuff to start to stock it up.

Obviously I immediately started to paint them

1st up another map. This one is for Vietnam, although most of it could double for North America and Europe. There are 5 Vietnamese villages, 2 fire bases , a US HQ, tarmac'd road and some girder bridges. I really love making these maps and have get another 200 hex bases to make more of everything and desert version

As it's a map it needed counters. These are from Magister and there are 6 Hueys, 8 Skyhawks, couple of boats, M113, couple of downed helos and bases for USMC, US LRRP, NVA, VC and civilians

I've been looking to complete my Turkish WW1 force and these 30 Kurdish irregulars will almost do it. The rest are on order. These are actually Northstar SCW Morrocans but the differences are minor.

I've given each section different coloured flowers for ID

I can now field a massive Turkish army for WW1 and RCW. I know you say "complete - Ha" but it's now almost too big for a bolt action battle and the drawer is full

Finally I had a delivery from Pendraken and it included this windmill which arrived pre-painted. it's a lovely model but big for 10mm, esp as I've been using 6mm buildings. Th.e figures with it are 15mm

Right I got some more 10mm Italian Wars figures to paint to complete that collection, that drawer is overly full, God knows what I'll paint for the next challenge. I'm overly concerned it may be something ridiculous, OK more ridiculous

Guess What?

Yip another painting challenge update. This is a long post so it needs a long song (cheesy classic)

I feel a bit weird about these posts as they are basically duplicates and I don't like repeating myself. That is a bit odd from a man who lectures for a living and basically repeats himself annually (well almost, I do like to tinker with my lectures every year)
Also it feels like I haven't posted for ages and I'm away all weekend.
I have done no gaming, but I have have been trying to cover my gaming boards with not quite enough felt, very annoying.
First up the Curtgeld, Curt's payment for running the challenge is a figure of a gambler, I chose Wild Bill Hickok, he's an Artizan figure.

The main work has been my Republican Romans, which I'm loving. The figs are Crusader (bought in their sale as a full army last January) and Aventine. The Crusader figs are well made and great figures but the Aventine ones are works of art, if a little tall.  I love the overall effect and I really like painting the shield designs.
First up 2 units of hastai

Aventine Figs

Crusader Figs

Next up a unit of Principes

Crusader Figs

All legions need commanders and I have 3, mainly Aventine and 1 Crusader. I based them up as little vignettes and i think they work really well.

This guy was out of a Northstar lucky bag and I added the crest from the bits box

The next figs are from Magister Militum and are a weird looking Carthaginian general

Finally some Parthian Camel Cataphracts. Always wanted some of these and a desert fantasy army. The figures are really tall, 70mm.

right I'm off to get drunk for 4 days in Bedfordshire

Shiny Happy People

Christmas festivities are done and I'm exhausted (80% in a good way - family, beer and food, and 20% in a bad way - got a dodgy cold)
I had a really great time (4 sorts of fish for starters and 8 sorts of meat for mains at Christmas lunch) and some really fab presents, which I present below

Zulu command set from Empress

Naval Squad in Sennet hats from Copplestone

Couple of Fishermen from Black Cat Bases and "The Good, The Bad and the Weird from Tsuba miniatures

Carthaginian General from Magister Militum and 2 pygmies in masks from Black Cat

Bag of  Pathans from Old Glory

 Parthian Camel Cataphracts from Magister

And finally Bengal Lancers from Perry

Generally I'm really pleased with all of them. I've not bought from Magister of Black Cat before and then are good - Magister being very much old school but well executed  and I've always wanted some of these camels.
A special word must go out to Tsuba Miniatures, these may be the best figures I've ever bought - I have more not shown that will pop up on the Painting Challenge this week. The sculpting and casting is fantastic. They can be bought from Empress bt i went direct to the blog and bought them from Marcus directly. Took a little long as he has an actual life as well but much cheaper. The selection is small but interesting.
